I’m about to take a break from social media dating apps. March 19 to be exact, my birthday. It’s a good date for a break up, I think. Or at least a break. And right now, I’m feeling this: I’d like to meet a man (straight I am), old school style. Where I catch his eye, where I talk to him, banalities really, maybe he makes me laugh and I see that spark. Want to fuck him, even. That, that is what I’d like right now. While Bumble, OKCupid, Tinder and the others have been fun, I’ve grown weary of swiping, of shopping for humans, of evaluating men in the most non-tactile of ways. I’ve grown accustomed to using men for sex, for being dismissive of men who have value, for that sound I make when I see a man’s profile photo of him kissing a dolphin. I’m also becoming slightly disdainful by the Mrs. Robinson fetish, which, while it’s charming for a round or two, in my experience being on the dating apps, seems to be rampant, in a way that I’d not been privvy to before; the amount of millenial men who turn up in my inboxes or sit in the green little bubble cue on Bumble is astounding; I don’t want to be soured. I want to find love. I believe in love. I like when I feel love for someone. So. I’m going to return to making eye contact. To staying present in a conversation. To being social. Stay tuned. It’s going to be a bumpier ride.

When Stars align: “We fight for education. For health. For justice. For every girl. Every woman. Everywhere. We fight for our future. Because none of us can move forward if half of us are held back.”
