FRIDAY. The elixir of the week. The beginning of respite, two days only, but still. It’s been another roller coaster, this one. The great Mark E. Smith of The Fall passed away, age 60. The first time I saw The Fall play was with my first great love, Douglas. Somewhere in New York, I couldn’t tell you. The old Ritz maybe? Or was it, fuck, I have no idea. Mark E. Smith spewed his words, “Totally Wired,” a gale force of punk enveloped in his purity. I was such a fan. I played “Kurious Oranj” over and over and over again. To this day, still. Living Too Late. Taurig. Mr. Pharmacist. All these beautiful gifts, these songs. He wasn’t someone I knew, and yet he gave me so much. RIP Mark E. Smith. And you? Have a great weekend.
