Well, it’s Thanksgiving Eve. For me, I stick to tradition. I head to our friend’s house for Balloon Night, an “event” that is a New York City Thing. In my twenties, I used to go on Balloon Night dates or with a few friends. As a parent, I took my daughter and her wonder was worth the while. We are lucky in that we have friends who live on West 77th Street and West 81st, friends who’s home overlook the inflating of the Macy’s Day Parade Floats, which means, as friends of a resident, I get to walk along the residential–and ergo, non-busy–side of the street. Yes, even on Balloon Night, there is a class schism; tourists get to walk on the over crowded die of West 77th and West 81st, to observe the floats that they will see tomorrow, in a state of transition.

Still, despite the crowds and the segregation, and the police presence, and having to prove to an on-duty cop I am a friend of a resident by showing my invitation to their Balloon Night party, I love this night. I get to see and speak to friends I haven’t seen in a while. And it’s not the small talk I dread, it’s actual catch up of the soul. All good. Because, I need a dollop of that right now. Plus a sunset. I can always use a sunset.

My friend Amy Richards has been doing work for women for as long as I’ve known her (since my BUST days); she is a champion of human rights, across the board. I adore her and I was so happy to see this link this morning, where Amy talks about her involvement with the Viceland series, WOMAN.

I so loved Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s We Should All Be Feminists TED talk so anytime I see her in the news, I devour away.  So, it should be no surprise that I really love her understanding of the Beauty Myth.  “It would be nice to see a black woman with really kinky hair. It would be nice to see a white woman with very red hair. I think that’s important because the reality of our world is that it’s an incredibly diverse place.”

I’m intrigued by Snapchat’s Spectacles. Also, what a boon for creepers everywhere.

I discovered the Hitachi Magic Wand in my twenties. And in the wake of that discovery, what I’ve learned is this: a woman must give herself pleasure daily. Do it. It changes the cadence of your whole life, to get off.
